Masam announces the recovery of 3,797 mines, unexploded shells, and explosive devices

The “Masam” mine clearance project in Yemen announced the removal of 3,797 mines, unexploded shells, and explosive devices in various Yemeni regions during the month of last November.
According to the monthly report issued by the project’s media center, it was able, last November, to remove 3,164 unexploded ordnance and 559 anti-tank mines, while the total area cleared during the same month reached 1,156,407 square meters of Yemeni territory.
The project also destroyed 2,002 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices during November, as part of the project’s tireless effort to save innocent lives from camouflaged explosive devices.
The Assistant General Manager of the Masam Project - Qasim Al-Dosari explained, “The project team carried out the destruction of 1,582 mines, explosive devices, and non-explosive shells in Bab al-Mandab, Taiz Governorate, last November.” He added: “The Masam Project also carried out the destruction and detonation of 420 in the same month.” A mine, an unexploded shell, and an explosive device in Ain District, Shabwa Governorate.
He pointed out that the destruction operation that took place was the 192nd operation for the project since it began its work in Yemen. Al-Dosari stressed, "The destruction operation that was carried out was carried out in accordance with international standards followed in the destruction of mines and war remnants, where a safe location far from the population is chosen, after coordination with the relevant authorities."
He pointed out that "the mines and explosive devices that were destroyed in the context were planted in vital areas, such as villages, farms, roads, schools, and others," stressing that "they constituted a direct threat to the lives of civilians, and killed many of them." .
The media center indicated that the total number of mines that have been cleared since the launch of the “Masam” project at the end of June 2018 until now has reached 423,794 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices, planted by the Houthi militia randomly in various Yemeni governorates, while the total area reached The disinfected area is 52,044,0191 square meters, from the start of the project until today.
