Al-Zubaidi inspects Mayon Island and Bab al-Mandab in light of Houthi threats to maritime navigation

Major General Aidaroos Qasim Al-Zubaidi, Chairman of the Southern Transitional Council and Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, today, Monday, made an inspection visit to Mayon Island and the Bab al-Mandab District.
Al-Zubaidi was received upon his arrival on Mayon Island, during the visit in which he was accompanied by the member of the Presidency of the Transitional Council, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Jalal, the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Mohsen Al-Daari, and the Minister of Transport, Dr. Abdul Salam Humaid, Major General Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, the former Minister of Defense, and a number of military commanders and deputy ministers, Badr, Assistant Secretary-General of the Local Council of the capital, Aden, and Sheikh Saleh Al-Mayuni, Aqel Al-Jazeera.
During his visit, Al-Zubaidi inspected a number of vital projects being implemented on the island, most notably the Mayon Island airport, the water desalination plant, and the housing unit that work is underway with support from our brothers in the United Arab Emirates.
In this context, Al-Zubaidi directed the rapid implementation of the sea tongue project on the island, the fish landing center project, the ice production plant, and the construction of an additional desalination plant to serve the island’s residents.
Al-Zubaidi, as part of his visit to Mayon Island, met with the leadership of the coalition forces stationed on the island, appreciating the major role played by the coalition forces in securing the island and the region, and supporting measures to normalize life there.
Al-Zubaidi stressed the geopolitical importance that Mayon Island occupies in the Bab al-Mandab region, reiterating the readiness of our armed forces to participate in any international effort or coalition to secure international shipping lines in this important region of the world.
In the context of his field visit, Al-Zubaidi visited the Bab al-Mandab Directorate, during which he met a large crowd of the people of the region, led by the Director of the Directorate, Muhammad Fadl al-Shairi, and Sheikh Anwar al-Muaibi, the Sheikh of the region. Al-Zubaidi’s visit to Bab al-Mandab and Mayon, located at the southern end of Bab al-Mandab, which is an important island for monitoring ship movements, comes in light of the Houthi threats affecting international maritime shipping lines, at a time when the transitional council is rushing to build naval forces capable of confronting the Houthi and pirate threats.
