The Houthis stop free medicines for oncology patients, Sanaa

Health sources confirmed that the administration of the oncology center under the management of the Houthi militia in Sanaa stopped distributing some free medicines to patients, and forced them to buy them from a private company.
The sources said that the center’s administration cut off the patients’ medication (Pantoprazole), a type of vial usually used before a chemotherapy dose, without giving reasons.
The sources added that the oncology center nurses force patients to buy a brand called (medprazole), a vial from an Indian company, and the price of one vial is 2,900 riyals, as a condition for obtaining the chemotherapy dose.
She indicated that if the patient buys an alternative brand, he is rejected by some nurses, knowing that the prices of the alternatives are less than a thousand riyals in commercial pharmacies.
The sources suggested that forcing patients to buy a specific item comes as a result of a relationship between the company supplying it and the management of the oncology center, which pays huge commissions to the center to forcefully administer their treatment at the patients’ expense.
