US forces announced the downing of drones launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, targeting one of their destroyers located in the Red Sea.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM), in a statement on the “X” platform, at dawn today, Sunday, said that the destroyer “USS Laboon”, located in the Red Sea, shot down, between 3 and 8 pm (Yemen time), four Drones coming from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.
The statement added that the drones were targeting the destroyer that was patrolling the southern Red Sea as part of Operation Prosperity Guard (OPG), and there were no casualties or damage in this incident.
She explained that yesterday, Saturday, the Houthi group fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles at international shipping lanes in the southern Red Sea, but no ships were reported to be affected by these missiles.
The statement indicated that the “Central Command” received, yesterday evening, reports that two commercial ships were attacked in the southern Red Sea, the first of which was the tanker of chemicals and petroleum materials (M/V BLAAMANEN), owned by Norway and flying its flag, which reported an accident. of a Houthi drone, close to it, without injuries or damage.
The second was the ship (M/V SAIBABA), an Indian-flagged, Gabonese-owned crude oil tanker, which reported being attacked by a drone in one direction, with no casualties reported.
The US Central Command reported that the destroyer USS Laboon responded to distress calls sent by the two ships in these attacks, which represent “the fourteenth and fifteenth attacks on commercial ships by Houthi militants since October 17.”
