Aden International Airport authorities foiled, on Friday, the smuggling of 52 kilograms of gold out of the country.
The gold was in the possession of a traveler who intended to smuggle it illegally into the state of Jordan.
A senior official at Aden International Airport said that officers of the Political Security Service (intelligence) thwarted an organized smuggling operation of quantities of gold with a market value of more than 2 million dollars in the possession of a traveler at Aden International Airport.
The official who refused explained His name was mentioned because he was not authorized to speak to the media. He said that early on Friday morning, a traveler was suspected of wearing a backpack and a travel bag designated for clothes and luggage, before he was stopped and searched.
He indicated that after searching the traveler’s bags, quantities of metal were found. The gold weighs 52 kilograms, and its price is estimated at more than 3 billion and 848 million Yemeni riyals.
The source did not reveal further details about the identity of the smuggler, but confirmed that the smuggled quantity was hidden in the luggage of a traveler and he intended to take it out of the country illegally.
The official confirmed that the airport authorities took legal measures and referred the smuggler to the competent authorities, praising at the same time the high security sense and security vigilance of the officers and members of the Political Security Service (intelligence) working at Aden International Airport.
The Yemeni authorities stand on the lookout for many Smuggling attempts aimed at harming national security in the country, taking advantage of the Houthi war that has been striking the country for 9 years.
