Aden International Airport authorities thwarted, yesterday, Friday, the smuggling of 52 kilograms of gold.
The gold was in the possession of a traveler who intended to smuggle it illegally out of the country.
A security source said that officers of the Political Security Service (intelligence) thwarted an organized smuggling operation of quantities of gold with a market value of more than 2 million dollars, in the possession of a traveler at Aden International Airport.
The source explained that, early on Friday morning, a traveler was suspected of wearing a backpack and a travel bag intended for clothes and luggage before he was stopped and searched.
The source pointed out that after searching the traveler's luggage, quantities of gold metal weighing 52 kilograms were found, and its price is estimated at more than 3 billion and 848 million Yemeni riyals.
The source did not reveal further details about the identity of the smuggler, but confirmed that the smuggled quantity was hidden in the luggage of a traveler and he intended to take it out of the country illegally.
The Yemeni authorities are on the lookout for many smuggling attempts aimed at harming the country's national security, taking advantage of the Houthi war that has struck the country for 9 years.
