The Security Council calls on the Houthis to refrain from attacking commercial ships

An emergency session of the UN Security Council called on the Houthi militia to refrain from attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea and to release the ship they are holding with its crew.
The United States representative said that attacks by what he called the Houthis in Yemen on commercial ships threaten “human rights.” and navigational freedoms” in the Red Sea and constitute a “global challenge” that requires a “global response.”

In this context, the British delegate condemned what he called “unlawful attacks by Houthis on navigation,” describing it as indiscriminate and “targeting ships that have nothing to do with Israel, and we will not hesitate to take measures to prevent these attacks,” and holding Iran responsible for the attacks.
