A comprehensive strike in Abyan and Lahj to protest the non-payment of teachers’ salaries

On Sunday, Abyan and Lahj governorates witnessed comprehensive strikes in schools and all work facilities, in protest against the non-payment of employee salaries.
In Abyan Governorate, teachers closed their doors in government schools, in protest against the non-payment of their late salaries.
This strike comes after teachers in the governorate organized several protests in the past weeks, without achieving any progress in their demands.
In Lahj Governorate, the Federation of Southern Trade Unions in the governorate approved a comprehensive strike in all work facilities in the governorate, starting tomorrow morning, Monday.
This strike comes in protest against the non-payment of employees’ salaries for two consecutive months (September 2023 and January 2024), including the annual bonus.
The Union also decided to hold a march and a protest in front of the headquarters of the local authority in the governorate.
These strikes caused the disruption of studies in schools in Abyan Governorate, and the cessation of work in all work facilities in Lahj Governorate.
The labor unions in the governorates of Abyan and Lahj called on the Yemeni government to pay employees’ arrears and transfer the salaries through post offices.
