Report: “Siri” projects enhance institutional and economic flexibility in Lahj

A report issued by the Ministry of Local Administration in the capital, Aden, stated that Lahj Governorate was one of the governorates targeted for the implementation of a number of development projects and programs affiliated with the Enhancing Institutional and Economic Resilience Project “SIRI” during the period 2021-2023 AD.
The report explained that the project targeted five districts of Lahj Governorate: Al-Hawta, Taban, Al-Mudaraba, Habil Jabr, and Yafa’.
With regard to the institutional component of the “Siri” project, a number of training and qualification courses were implemented for cadres and leaders of the local authority, education cadres, and civil society organizations, in a number of fields, including:
* Planning and budget preparation
* Expense management
* Gender and local governance
* Conflict sensitivity
* Capacity building of women’s development departments in the field of local government
* Strengthening cooperation frameworks between women’s circles
A number of programs and projects were implemented in the education sector, including:
* Security and safety courses in schools
* Educational planning and needs assessment
* Building the capacity of education offices on back-to-school campaigns
* Psychological support programs for specialists and teachers in schools
With regard to the institutional component of the project, under the development projects to help recover from war for the education sector, a number of projects have been implemented, including:
* Rehabilitation and furnishing of Ibn Sina School in Habil Jabr
* Restoration and rehabilitation of Khadija and Al-Zahraa schools in Al-Houta
* Restoration and rehabilitation of Muhammad Al-Durrah, Muhammad Abdulaziz and May 22 schools in Taban
* Building the wall of Abu Dhar al-Ghafari School in Mudaraba
* Providing solar energy systems for five schools
As for local economic development, a number of training and rehabilitation courses were implemented in a number of axes, including:
* Local economic development indicators
* Understanding the local economy
* How to develop, implement and review local economic development strategies
* Public-private partnership
* Revenue generation
The number of beneficiaries of these courses reached 260 individuals from local authority leaders, community committees and civil society organizations, and 1,122 from the educational sector in the governorate and the targeted districts.
In the works sector, a project for paving Al-Salam Market with stones was implemented in Yafa.
The report explained that a number of projects whose technical studies were submitted to the donor to be implemented during the current year through the local partner Yemen Aid, which are:
* Paving and widening the Dhi Harra obstacle in Yafa
* Rehabilitation of the Khor Amira water network and the nomads (a distance of twenty kilometers, pipelines and solar energy in Mudaraba)
* Rehabilitation of the sewage network in the Beit Ayyad neighborhood in Taban
* Rehabilitation of an asphalt road, maintenance of the bridges of Khor Amira and the Shatt Bridge, and paving of the main road with a length of 100 km in Mudaraba
* A project to pave the road of Al-Jumai and Al-Humaishi neighborhoods, with a distance of 6 km, paving rocks in Habeel Jabr
* Restoration and rehabilitation of the old fish market in Al-Houta
The Ministry confirmed that it is continuing to evaluate, supervise and follow up on the progress of implementation of the remaining projects that will be implemented during the year 2024 AD, according to what was agreed upon with the United Nations Development Program “UNDP”.
