The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Muhammad Buhaibah, called for concerted efforts and community and sectoral mobilization to make the measles and rubella immunization campaign successful, which the Ministry is implementing with the support of the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the Global Vaccine Alliance.
Dr. Bahibah explained in a press statement that the campaign will begin tomorrow, Saturday, and will continue for six days, targeting more than one million and 267 thousand children from the age of 6 months to under five years of age, even those who have previously been immunized in the districts of 13 governorates, stressing that the implementation of the campaign comes out of awareness. The national duty towards children after more than 15,000 cases of measles were recorded during the past period, leading to more than 200 deaths.
He reiterated the safety of vaccines, their effectiveness, and their availability in all immunization centers, pointing out that they are carefully preserved in a highly efficient cold chain and under the supervision of the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
He stressed the need for everyone in the local authorities in the governorates and social and legal figures to come together to mobilize energies and provide effective support for the success of the measles and rubella immunization campaign, given that prevention of immunizable diseases will not be possible except by taking vaccines. He called on everyone to feel religious and national duty and to contribute to the success of the campaign. And immunizing our children against the dangers of measles and rubella, which the Ministry is working to implement with a health staff of up to 6,897 staff distributed among 3,025 fixed and temporary teams.
