The Anti-Corruption Commission summons the Minister of Higher Education for investigation

An official document revealed that the Minister of Higher Education was assigned to appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission to hear his statements in a corruption file in which his ministry was involved, related to withdrawing funding from the Kuwaiti Fund in violation of the law,
Noting that the request to appear was the result of his (the Minister) evasion of enabling the Anti-Corruption Commission to obtain an exact copy of the tender file for withdrawing funding, which is a loan to the Republic of Yemen.
The Al-Alia National Anti-Corruption Authority suspended a loan from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development worth more than 56.5 million US dollars, which was requested by the Ministry of Higher Education in order to equip 12 community colleges.
The document indicated that the Authority had begun halting the procedures for withdrawing the loan in accordance with Article 97 of Presidential Decree No. 19 of 2010 regarding the regulations for the Anti-Corruption Law.
Which authorizes the Authority to initiate the cancellation and annulment of any agreement to which the state is a party, if it becomes clear through review and examination that it was concluded in violation of the provisions of the laws, and causes harm to the public interest.
The Authority explained in an official memorandum that it had not received any response regarding the tender procedures for withdrawing funding,
Confirming that the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Khaled Al-Assabi, was addressed in Memorandum No. 116, dated 10/16/2023, to provide the Authority with an exact copy of the tender file, but that did not happen until the date of his summoning.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives referred the tender violations to the National Anti-Corruption Authority, pursuant to a referral from the Prime Minister after submitting comments on the tender from the Minister of Finance, based on the report of the technical committee specializing in studying the tender documents, and the report of the technical expert in the tender committee, concerning the equipment project. 12 community colleges in the Republic of Yemen.
