The Red Cross sends an urgent call to the international community regarding Yemen

The International Committee of the Red Cross called on donor countries to continue funding life-saving operations in Yemen, stressing, “Simply do not forget Yemen.”
This was stated by the International Committee’s spokeswoman, Fatima Sator, in an interview with the agency. Chinese news “Xinhua” published it on its website on Sunday, February 11.
Satur said that Yemen “is still facing a state of increasing uncertainty,” with the lack of donor response in providing humanitarian support, stressing, “We cannot We must endure that it becomes merely a forgotten crisis.”
She appealed to the international community to increase humanitarian aid to the country, which she described as “the poor in the Arabian Peninsula.”
She spoke of more than 5 million Yemenis today standing on the “brink of famine.” This is - according to her - with the worsening humanitarian conditions due to the war that has been going on for nearly nine years and the resulting catastrophic repercussions in various fields.
Sator pointed out that the conflict and economic deterioration left “families struggling to find enough food to spend their lives.” That day.”
Sator added: “The people in Yemen cannot bear more stress, anxiety, and uncertainty.”
She said: “It is important to remember that Yemen is now in its ninth year of conflict, and the population is exhausted.” “The economy is on the verge of collapse, water and electricity are almost non-existent, half of the healthcare facilities have been destroyed, or do not have the supplies or staff needed to operate.”
This comes as a report issued by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Affairs showed OCHA said that 17.6 million people in Yemen will face severe food insecurity during the year 2024, which threatens to increase the spread of hunger and malnutrition on a large scale if the response to the growing needs in the country fails.
