Yemen: The return of more than five thousand expatriates from Saudi Arabia in January 2024

More than five thousand Yemeni expatriates returned from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the first month of this year, an increase of about 300 people over the last month of last year.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in a report monitoring the flow of returnees, issued on Sunday, that it recorded a total of 5,148 Yemeni expatriates who returned from Saudi Arabia during the month of January 2024.
The report added that all the returnees last month entered through the Al-Wadiah border crossing between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, including 5,015 people holding travel documents, while 133 others did not hold travel documents, and the returnees varied between 4,996 men, 47 women, 67 girls, and 38 boys.
The northern regions under the control of the Houthi group topped the list of governorates in the number of expatriates returning there from Saudi Arabia last January. They are: the capital, Sana’a (623), followed by Al-Mahwit (453), then Saada (432), Hajjah (405), and Ibb ( 391), Al-Hudaydah (372), Taiz (301), Amran (253), Dhamar (205), and Raymah (143), while the largest number in the governorates within the recognized government’s influence was 146 expatriates in Ma’rib Governorate, and the smallest number was 18 expatriates in Al-Dhalea. .
It is noteworthy that “International Migration” monitored a total of 55,402 Yemeni expatriates who returned from Saudi Arabia during the period between January and December 2023.
