Director of the Culture Office in Shabwa Governorate, Dr. Faisal Hussein Al-Basi, stated that the Culture Office held many cultural and entertainment events and programs during this year, including a photography competition in which snapshots of popular traditions, Shabwani folk costume, and Ramadan food eaten by citizens are shown, since the competition was held in The month of Ramadan.. We also held a holiday program called (Eid is a Joy) for three days, in which several artistic performances were presented, distinguished by the shabwani and tan colors. The audience interacted with them and gained their satisfaction because this event took them back to the eighties and allowed the youth to show their creativity and talents.
The general director pointed out The Culture Office in Shabwa Governorate indicated that the Culture Office in Shabwa has a number of cultural programs and upcoming events, including the ongoing preparations for the Fourth Festival of Heritage and Arts, which will be held soon. The festival will witness various programs in Ahazbeg, Shabwani folk dance, customs, traditions, and popular dress for the people of Shabwa since ancient times. There is also a program to establish A festival of eloquent Arabic poetry across Yemen, with the participation of a number of great Yemeni poets from all governorates of the Republic, will be held on December 18 of the current year, 2023 AD, which will coincide with the International Day of the Arabic Language.
With regard to the building and the extent of its rehabilitation... Dr. Faisal Al-Baasi said: Of course, we rearranged and furnished the building and administration, and two training halls were prepared and fully equipped with the generous support of the Governor of Shabwa, Awad Ibn al-Wazir. As well as rehabilitating the library inside the building and providing it with more than 500 titles. Work was done to rehabilitate the garden in the building’s courtyard with more than 500 plants in addition to 200 rose trees with a water distillation network, and this garden needs continuous support. There are promises from the Kuwaiti brothers through the Al-Hikmah Al-Yamani Charitable Society to rehabilitate some parts of the building.
Dr. Faisal Al-Baasi revealed some of the challenges facing the culture office in the governorate, represented by the operational budget, which does not cover operational expenses and some activities except what is given to us by the leadership of the governorate. Unfortunately, we have not received any support from the Ministry of Culture. Also among the challenges facing us are the chairs in the great hall of the theater. Dilapidated and in need of rehabilitation.
