A protest by faculty members at the Universities of Aden and Lahj to demand the settlement of their salaries

Faculty members at the Universities of Aden and Lahj, who hold doctoral degrees and the title of assistant professor, organized a protest in front of the Ministry of Finance last Sunday, to demand the speedy approval of their salary settlement.
This protest comes in light of the difficult circumstances and deteriorating living conditions that professors are experiencing, as their salaries were frozen for a period of more than three years, and the value of the arrears of salaries amounted to about 50 thousand Yemeni riyals, which is approximately equivalent to 40 US dollars.

In light of the current difficult circumstances and the terrible deterioration of living conditions, our suffering has increased both; Because we have been deprived of our fair legal rights, we are faculty members at the universities of Aden and Lahj who hold doctoral degrees and the title of assistant professor. We organized this protest as a result of being deprived of the legal settlement of our salaries. We have fatwas from the civil service that were delivered to the Ministry of Finance a long time ago, but the settlement of our salaries It was obstructed and we found nothing but false promises. We have nearly three years and our salaries are about 50 thousand riyals, equivalent to 40 dollars.
We call on the Presidential Leadership Council and the Prime Minister to intervene urgently and direct us to approve the settlement of our salaries in April 2024 and to begin work.
We are tired of promises, procrastination, and procrastination. Hence, we call on civil society organizations, human rights organizations, unions, and journalists to stand with us until our legal rights are taken away. In the event that the competent authorities do not respond, we will resort to escalation with a sit-in and all available methods.
