Hours after announcing the opening of the road, a violent Houthi attack was confronted at the eastern port of Taiz

On Saturday, Yemeni army forces repelled a violent attack launched by Houthi militants on the eastern port of Taiz, less than 24 hours after the city authorities announced the opening of the main road through the port to travelers ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Yemen Monitor website said, “The Yemeni army responded to a violent attack launched by the Houthis at the eastern port of the city of Taiz, 24 hours after the government committee concerned with the announcement of the readiness of the road for passengers to cross on its part.”
On Friday, the government committee for opening roads in Taiz Governorate announced, in a statement, “the readiness to open the two main roads: the Basin Al-Ashraf Road/ Aqaba Munif - Al-Hawban - Sana’a Line, and the Old Airport Road/ Hathran - Al-Barh - Hodeidah Line.”
She added that “these two main roads (for her part) are fully prepared, starting at ten in the morning tomorrow, Saturday,” calling on the “Ansar Allah” group to “respond to the initiative that coincides with the blessed month of Ramadan.”
The government committee for opening roads in Taiz Governorate stated, “The initiative aims to fulfill the hopes of the Yemeni people in general, and the people of Taiz Governorate in particular, by ending their suffering in the movements that the Houthis have been behind as a result of the siege, for nine years.”
The Yemeni government’s initiative comes, days after it announced last Wednesday, the opening of the Aqaba Munif road leading to the tour of the Republican Palace and the Al-Hawban area east of the city of Taiz, which the armed group responded by opening the 50th road linking to the 60th road west of the city of Taiz, as well as the linking road. Between Haifan District in Taiz Governorate and Tur Al-Baha District in Lahj Governorate (southern Yemen), in the city of Aden declared the capital of the country in southern Yemen.
The city of Taiz is connected by four main roads, the eastern, northern, northeastern, and western ports, leading to the governorates of Ibb, Dhamar, Hodeidah, and Lahj. However, it is currently closed by the Yemeni army and Houthi militants, which has prompted civilians to use rugged alternative roads that extend the time to reach the city for hours instead. About minutes.
Last Thursday, the Yemeni government announced a unilateral initiative that included opening the vital road linking the Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen) and the capital, Sana’a, which is controlled by the Houthi group. Hours later, the latter opened the Marib-Sarwah-Sanaa road, which is... A desert road that is not suitable for civilians to cross.
