The Governor of Socotra inaugurates Socotra Language Day activities

The Governor of Socotra, Engineer Raafat Al-Thaqali, today inaugurated the activities of Socotra Language Day, which falls on March 3 of each year, organized by the Socotra Language Center for Studies and Research.
At the inauguration of the event, Governor Raafat Al-Thaqali stressed that Socotri Language Day constitutes an important occasion in the governorate, because of the importance it represents as a national identity and an essential and authentic historical peculiarity of the island.
Al-Thaqli pointed out the necessity of adopting various activities on this occasion related to the language to preserve it from extinction and oblivion.
He pointed out the interest of the local authority in continuing to integrate the Socotri language into the school curricula to consolidate it among generations to protect it from loss.
Al-Thaqali appreciated the role of the Socotri Language Center and the programs and research work it carries out on the language and the development of appropriate studies that ensure its survival.
For his part, the head of the Socotri Language Center for Studies and Research, Dr. Noah Al-Alimi, confirmed that the establishment of the center is a major achievement for the governorate for its role in collecting and codifying the language throughout history and that it faces the threat of extinction.
Explaining that the center will organize an evening event on the occasion of Socotri Language Day, with the large participation of those interested in the Socotri language and culture, and a large presence of the people of the governorate, to shed more light on it.
