Al-Houthi forces merchants to stop distributing alms

Informed sources revealed that the Houthi militia prevented businessmen, merchants, and philanthropists from registering poor families and people with limited income in areas under its control in order to provide them with food aid during the holy month of Ramadan.
The sources confirmed that the Houthi militia directed all merchants, businessmen and philanthropists in the capital, Sanaa, and the rest of the governorates under its control not to record any cases of poor families in need of food baskets.
The sources added that a number of merchants and businessmen received a verbal notification from the Houthi supervisors in the squares in which they confirmed the directive not to register any cases of poor and needy families and that the registration process is not within their jurisdiction, but rather the jurisdiction of the supervisors of the squares and residential neighborhoods.
According to the sources, the Houthi militia threatened to take measures against those who violate this directive, stressing that merchants, businessmen and philanthropists must adhere to these measures to avoid any serious consequences that would harm their commercial interests.
It is worth noting that a number of merchants, businessmen, and philanthropists provide food aid to poor and needy families during the month of Ramadan every year, while the group seeks to monopolize the distribution of this aid in its favor.
