Yemeni Member of Parliament, Ali Ashal, said on Wednesday that the government had waived half of Polish wheat aid, estimated at 40,000 tons, to a merchant in exchange for transporting wheat to Yemen, after being unable to provide transportation costs.
According to Ashal, the value of wheat provided by the Polish government as aid to the Yemeni people is estimated at 14 million dollars, and “the government was unable to provide 2 million dollars for the costs of transporting it to benefit the needy people.”
Ashal confirmed that the government contracted “with a merchant who will transport it in exchange for taking half the quantity!! That means he earns 7 million dollars!!?”, and asked: In his post on the X platform, “How foolish has the matter reached?”
Ashal attached his post to a previous memorandum sent from the office of the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in the government to the representative of the World Food Program in Yemen, asking him, based on the Prime Minister’s directives, to transfer the shipment provided by Poland to Yemen, estimated at 40 thousand tons, and distribute it “due to the lack of capabilities.” Material (with the government) to transfer.”
