A recent UN report stated that the food security situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate further, reaching its highest level during July 2023.
The World Food Program (WFP) said in its report for August 2023: “ The food security situation in Yemen continued to deteriorate during last July, for the third month in a row.”
The report added that the areas of influence of the internationally recognized Yemeni government (IRG) witnessed last July the emergence of worse results in food insecurity compared to the areas under control. to the Houthi group authorities (SBA), where the percentage was 52% and 47%, respectively.
He pointed out that the rate of insufficient food consumption rose nationwide by three percentage points in the period from June to July, reaching 49%, recording Its highest level since February 2023.
The program explained that food insecurity rates may increase in the coming months in light of the severe shortage it is experiencing in funding its programs for the next six months (October 2023 - March 2024), as it received only what 15% of the total financing required for this period, estimated at 1.23 billion US dollars.
