6,495 displaced families were affected by the rains in Marib, Yemen

The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons' Camps in Ma'rib Governorate revealed the extent of the losses caused by the heavy rains that the governorate witnessed during the past few days.
The Executive Unit stated in a report published by (Saba) that its documented preliminary statistics indicate that 6,495 displaced families were affected by the heavy rains that Ma’rib Governorate witnessed last Friday in 204 camps and displacement sites in the governorate.
It is indicated that 253 displaced families were completely damaged, as the rains and floods caused the loss and damage of homes and all their contents, including food and shelter supplies and possessions, while about 6,200 families were partially damaged.
The report indicated that the most important emergency needs of families affected by rain and floods are the provision of food and shelter, starting with high-quality tents and plastic sheets, in addition to food supplies, shelter materials, and clothing, as well as sanitation maintenance.
In its report, the Executive Unit called on humanitarian partners to quickly intervene and provide the urgent needs of affected families and to adopt a strategy to protect displaced camps from disasters such as floods and fires.
Stressing the need to review the standards of shelter interventions to be appropriate for all harsh and desert climatic conditions in the governorate and to avoid future risks and damages.
