American warning against Sudan becoming a “haven for terrorism”

American intelligence reports warned of the dangers of Sudan becoming an “ideal environment” for the activity of terrorist networks and a hotbed for international criminal groups, also pointing to fears that the war between the army and the “Rapid Support Forces” would extend beyond Sudan’s borders, in addition to serious threats to millions of Sudanese. Who face the risk of starvation.
The Sudan Monitor website quoted the US Office of National Intelligence as saying that the US intelligence community’s 2024 annual threat report warned of Sudan becoming a “haven for terrorism.” The report stated that “the continuation of the conflict in Sudan, by virtue of its location between the Horn of Africa, the Sahel region, and North Africa, may once again provide an ideal environment for terrorist and criminal networks.”
The American report expected that ISIS and Al-Qaeda branches would continue to expand on the African continent, including an increase in ISIS activity in western Sudan. The report said: “ISIS in the Sahara and West Africa contributes to destabilization, and governments use it in their sectarian conflicts and conflict with groups that suffer from marginalization, to achieve gains, especially in Nigeria and the Sahel region.”
In addition, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned yesterday of a potential catastrophic loss of life in Sudan as hunger worsens due to the civil war, and called for the mobilization of resources on a large scale.
