An old building collapsed in the historic city of Shibam, this evening, as a result of the heavy rains that the city witnessed during the past two days.
Fortunately, there were no human casualties in the accident, but the building was severely damaged.
The city of Shibam is considered one of the oldest cities in the world. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is distinguished by its unique mud buildings known as “mud skyscrapers.”
This incident comes at a time when Hadhramaut Governorate is suffering from significant material damage as a result of the air depression that struck the eastern governorates during the past two days.
According to reports from the governorate’s operations room, many cities in Hadhramaut, including Mukalla, the capital of the governorate, were damaged by the heavy rains and torrential floods that swept the city.
The floods resulted in the destruction of many homes and infrastructure, and also led to the cutting of roads and power outages in some areas.
