Washington: 10,000 Yemeni fishermen are deprived of their livelihood due to Houthi attacks in the Red Sea

The US Embassy in Yemen said that the Houthi attacks deprived about 10,000 fishermen of their source of livelihood in the Red Sea, which is witnessing multiple Houthi attacks targeting international shipping.
The embassy stated in a statement on the X platform that the Houthi attacks on commercial ships led to the deprivation of thousands of Yemeni fishermen of their source of livelihood.
The embassy statement added that in Hodeidah alone, Houthi attacks on commercial ships deprived 10,000 fishermen of their source of livelihood, and forced many of them to move to other places or surrender to hunger.
She explained that the repeated attacks by the group, which is classified as a terrorist organization, on commercial ships also caused a rise in fuel prices, which made the problem worse and made the lives of Yemenis more difficult.
It also indicated that in February, the Houthis attacked a cargo ship carrying corn and other foodstuffs that were intended for the Yemeni people.
The embassy said that the Houthi attacks are making things worse in a country like Yemen, where the World Bank estimates that 17 million people suffer from hunger, and the country imports about 90% of basic foodstuffs, according to the United Nations, and relies heavily on aid shipments.
