The Socotra Authority approves the disposal of the Hamamat Al Khaleej oil ship

The Governor of the Socotra Archipelago, Engineer Raafat Ali Ibrahim Al-Thaqali, discussed today, with the committee charged with dealing with the ship “Hamamat Al-Khaleej” that ran aground on the coast of Delisha, east of the island, the procedures for getting rid of it in a way that preserves the marine environment and its unique marine diversity and serves the public interest.
Governor Al-Thaqali, from the committee headed by the governor’s deputy, Raed Al-Jaribi, was briefed on the comprehensive briefing on the dismemberment and removal of this oil ship, which has been stuck since the beginning of November 2019 and is unfit for sea.
The meeting decided to withdraw the quantities of harmful and contaminated oils remaining on board, and to continue the work of cutting and preserving the pieces until all financial obligations are paid.
The ship “Gulf Dove” was carrying oil derivatives on board, and it ran aground on Delisha Beach in early November 2019 after it was swept away by waves as a result of bad sea conditions and strong winds.
