World Food: More than half of Yemenis suffered from food insecurity last April

A recent UN report revealed that more than half of Yemen's population suffered from severe food insecurity during last April.
The World Food Program said, in its new report on “The Situation of Food Security in Yemen” for the month of May, “After a temporary decline in March due to the month of Ramadan, the prevalence of insufficient food consumption across the country rose from 46 percent in March to 51 percent in April
The program explained that the results of the field survey it conducted throughout the country concluded that approximately 55 percent of the families included in the survey in the governorates under the Yemeni government, and 49 percent in the areas under the control of the Houthis, were unable to meet the minimum Of its food needs in April 2024.
It was stated that the governorates of Al-Jawf, Lahj, Abyan, Al-Dhalea, Shabwa, Al-Bayda, and Hajjah recorded the highest rates of food insecurity during the month.
The UN program indicated that “deteriorating economic conditions in the south (government-controlled areas) and the continued cessation of aid in the north (Houthi-controlled areas) remain the main drivers of severe food insecurity in April.”
