The National Investigation Committee meets with the leadership of the local, judicial and security authorities in Ma’rib Governorate

Members of the National Committee to Investigate Allegations of Human Rights Violations met today, Monday, with the leadership of the local, judicial and security authorities in Ma’rib Governorate, to review the human rights situation, as part of the committee’s field trip program to the governorate.
The members of the committee, Judge Dr. Diaa Meherz, Judge Dr. Muhammad Talian, Judge Hizam Al-Muraisi, and Judge Jihad Abdul-Rasoul, reviewed the field trip program to the governorate to review the human rights situation, visit various prisons and detention centers, and hold hearings for victims of human rights violations.
They also discussed a number of human rights issues. Noting the need for local authorities to activate oversight and accountability tools and refer those against whom violations have been proven to the judiciary, they also emphasized the complementary role of state agencies and the importance of the National Committee working in concert with the efforts of local and security authorities in order to reach victims, improve the conditions of detainees, and ensure the enforcement of the law, appreciating its At the same time, the local, security and judicial authorities responded by absorbing the committee’s recommendations and implementing them.
For his part, the Undersecretary of Ma’rib Governorate, Abd Rabbuh Muftah, expressed his welcome to the committee’s team, and during the meeting he touched on the efforts of the local authority to maintain security and protect civilians. He also appreciated the work of the committee and the role it plays in the framework of monitoring and investigating human rights violations.
The meeting was attended by the Chief of the Ma’rib Appeals Prosecution, the Chief of the Third Military Region’s Appeals Prosecution, the Director of the Ma’rib Governorate Police, the Commander of the Special Security Forces, the Head of the Political Security Service, the Head of the Intelligence Division of the Third Military Region and the Military Police War Staff.
The committee team then visited the buildings and annexes of the new central prison, viewed its sections, listened to juvenile prisoners in connection with a number of cases, and reviewed their legal and service conditions and their suitability to humanitarian standards and national and international laws.
