Today, Wednesday, members of the National Committee to Investigate Allegations of Human Rights Violations carried out a field trip to the headquarters of Military Intelligence and Political Security and the detention center in the Military Police in Ma’rib Governorate to review the conditions of detainees and assess the level of rights they enjoy and the extent to which they comply with applicable laws.

During the field visit, the team met with the head of the political security agency in the governorate, Brigadier General Naji Hatroum, and discussed with him the conditions of the detention center and a number of issues. The team also listened to a number of detainees at the agency’s headquarters and learned about their cases and the services provided to them.

As part of the program of field visits and meetings, the committee team met at the headquarters of the Third Military Region with the Deputy Director of the Military Intelligence Department, Brigadier General Sadiq Ali Amin, and discussed with him the conditions of detainees in pending cases.

Brigadier Sadiq expressed his appreciation for the repeated field visits of the National Investigation Committee to Ma’rib Governorate to evaluate detention centers and review the legal conditions of detainees, stressing the department’s readiness to provide all facilities to the committee’s field teams to enable them to perform all their tasks and absorb its recommendations.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Military Intelligence Division in the Third Military Region, Brigadier General Abdul Malik Al-Muhammadi, a member of the Office of the Attorney General of Military Prosecutions, Judge Muhammad Al-Jaafari, the Chief Prosecutor of the Third Military Region Appeal, Judge Salah Al-Qumairi, and the Chief Prosecutor of the Sixth Military Region, Judge Faisal Al-Hamidi.

After the meeting, the team visited the detention center of the Intelligence Division in the Third Military Region, and was informed of the conditions of detainees and convicts and their compliance with humanitarian standards and applicable laws. The committee also inspected the detention center of the Military Police in Ma’rib Governorate, assessed the health and food situation, and listened to A number of detainees in pending cases.
