Doctors Without Borders records 63,000 cases of cholera

Doctors Without Borders International announced that it had monitored more than 63,000 cases of cholera in 20 Yemeni governorates, since the beginning of this year 2024.
The organization said in a report that 20 out of 22 governorates are witnessing a significant increase in cases of acute watery diarrhea (cholera).”
She added, “Since the beginning of this year 2024, more than 63,000 cases have been reported in the country until May 31, according to health authorities.”
She explained that “despite the limited testing capacity in the country, more than 2,700 of the laboratory-examined cases turned out to be confirmed cases of cholera.”
The organization launched a response to combat the disease in 8 governorates, providing medical treatment to patients, training medical and non-medical staff, donating medical supplies and carrying out health awareness activities, according to the report.
On May 12, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that about a thousand cholera cases are being monitored daily in Yemen.
