Doctors Without Borders said that it had witnessed an unprecedented increase in the number of measles patients in Taiz Al-Hawban Mother and Child Hospital, which is under the control of the Houthi armed group.
Doctors Without Borders project coordinator in Taiz Al-Hawban, Joseph Alek, said today, “The number of measles patients in the hospital has increased by at least 10-fold in 3 months, which is an alarming increase that we have not seen since the day we started working in this hospital before.” 7 years".
Alec pointed out that “the increase in the number of measles patients is due to a number of factors, including the low level of immunization in the country, the weak capabilities of the health system, and the deteriorating security situation.”
He added, "The increase in the number of measles patients poses a great danger to the health of children in Yemen, as it can lead to serious complications, including death."
Alec called on the competent authorities to take urgent measures to stop the spread of measles and increase vaccination campaigns in the country.
Doctors Without Borders announced that it is working to expand the scope of its response to measles in Yemen, where it currently supports 12 hospitals and health centers in 6 governorates.
