Rescuing a stranded diesel ship in Nishtun Port in Al-Mahra Governorate “Photos”

The operation to rescue the diesel ship (PEGASUS) that ran aground on the coast opposite the port of Nishtun was successful. Its cargo was (3,700) metric tons of diesel. The accident was caused by currents, seasonal winds, sand deposition at the entrance to the port, and other factors.
Immediately after the ship ran aground, the progress of the rescue operation was coordinated and followed up with the Minister of Transport, Dr. Abdul Salam Saleh Humaid, the Undersecretary for the Marine and Ports Affairs Sector, Captain Ali Muhammad Al-Subhi, Engineer Salem Ali Basmir, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation, and his deputy, Mr. Fouad Tayseer Al-Rabaki, and Mr. Saeed Asad Chris, Director Nishtun Port and Captain Salem Omar Al-Gharabi, the marine guide at the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation and the rescue operation.
Captain Salem Al-Gharabi tied the ship with ropes to the dock pouches to prevent it from being swept further to the coast. He also threw the ship’s hook to stabilize it, and connected 250-meter-long pipes from the stranded ship to the oil company’s tanks in the port in preparation for the pumping process under the supervision of the oil company’s specialists, Engineer Ali. Nuwaija and engineer Muhammad Khwaidem.
With coordination and consultation between Captain Ali Al-Subhi, Engineer Salem Basmir, and Captain Salem Al-Gharabi, the rescue plan was approved, which actually began at two o’clock after midnight. The plan was to pump through the pipes and at the same time pull the ship through the ropes installed in the port (pumping, pulling, and monitoring the ship’s height), and after the passage (10) hours (1100) metric tons were pumped from the ship, and the ship rose from the bottom, and this coincided with the sea tide and the continuous dragging, and at exactly (12) noon today, Friday, the ship succeeded in reaching the dock of Nishtun Port and unloading its cargo safely.
The Ministry of Transport and the leadership of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation expressed their appreciation for the great efforts made by Captain Salem Al-Gharabi, the field supervisor of the rescue operation, sparing Al-Mahra Governorate an environmental disaster, and protecting the ship from total grounding.
