The International Organization for Migration has warned of an outbreak of acute diarrhea and cholera in Yemen, noting the increasing number of cases of the epidemic, and the recording of more than 30,000 suspected cases since the beginning of the latest outbreak wave.
The organization added, in a recent report, that the recent wave of the epidemic has worsened in a worrying manner, due to its spread in several governorates and heavy rains and floods, which increases the risk of water pollution, which is considered a major factor in the spread of the epidemic.
The report said that health experts expect the number of suspected cases to reach 255,000 by September 2024 if the level of preparedness and response activities is not raised to optimal levels.
From 2016 to 2022, Yemen faced the largest cholera outbreak ever in modern history, with more than 2.5 million suspected cases and 4,000 deaths.
