Local authorities in Abyan declare a state of emergency to confront the cholera epidemic

The Secretary-General of the Local Council in Abyan Governorate, Mahdi Al-Hamid, chaired an emergency meeting in the Water and Sanitation Office, which included officials from the local authority and service offices.
They discussed in detail the most important ways to curb the rapid spread of the epidemic, which according to official statistics reached 940 cases of watery diarrhea, 42 confirmed cases of cholera were confirmed by agricultural tests, while 16 deaths were recorded.
The meeting came out with a number of decisions, including:
-Declaring a state of emergency by local authorities to combat the epidemic.
-Approving an emergency budget to develop urgent solutions to the problem of wastewater mixing with drinking water in a number of areas that suffer from deteriorating and overlapping networks.
-Teams from the Local Water and Rural Water Corporation descended to purify drinking water in water tanks in a number of districts.
Activate the surveillance and epidemiological department and work to identify the sources of the spread of the epidemic and submit the necessary reports as quickly as possible.
-Continuation of cleaning campaigns in the capital and the districts, with a focus on areas with high infection.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Water and Sanitation Corporation, Engineer Saleh Belaidi, the Director General of the Rural Water Authority Office, Mr. Mohsen Dufan, the Director General of the Governor’s Office, Suleiman Al-Wakoud, the Director General of the Khanfar District, Lawyer Mazen Balil Al-Yusufi, and the Director General of Zanzibar, Engineer Mukhtar Al-Shaddadi.
The Deputy Director General of the Governorate Health Office, Dr. Khader Abd, and the Directors of Health, Khanfar, Dr. Salah Balalil and Zanzibar, Abdul Qadir Bajamil.
