Hodeidah.. Mines cause the death and injury of 120 civilians in 12 months

Mines and explosive devices planted by the Houthi militia - Iran's arm in Yemen, caused the death and injury of 120 civilians in Hodeidah Governorate during the period from June 2023 to May 2024.
Hodeidah is one of the Yemeni governorates that witnesses the most incidents of mine explosions and explosive remnants of the senseless war waged by the Houthi militia.
According to statistics published by the United Nations Mission to Implement the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), on Monday, the number of mine incidents recorded during the last 12 months reached (84) incidents. These incidents resulted in the deaths of 55 people, including 19 children and 5 women. 65 people were injured, including 25 children and 3 women.
The statistics indicated that about 43% of the victims of mine accidents that Hodeidah Governorate witnessed during the period mentioned in the UN mission’s report were children and women. Explaining that every 4 individuals out of a total of 10 victims are from these two categories.
According to the statistics, Al-Hali District in Hodeidah occupied the list of mine incidents with about 21 incidents, followed by Al-Durayhimi District with 20 incidents, Al-Tahtiya with 14 incidents, Bayt Al-Faqih with 10 incidents, while the rest of the incidents were distributed among other directorates.
Last May, the UN mission recorded 7 incidents related to mines and explosive ordnance, and these incidents resulted in 9 civilian casualties, including 4 children. This confirms the devastating impact of these events on the most vulnerable members of society.
The mission confirmed that Yemen is one of the countries most contaminated with mines and military explosives in the world, and that the country witnesses incidents on a weekly basis, leaving innocent victims.
