The Freedom Observatory calls on the UN envoy to include the names of detained journalists in the Muscat negotiations

The Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen sent a letter to the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, requesting that the names of detained journalists be included in the negotiations currently being held in the city of Muscat regarding the issue of prisoners and detainees.
The Observatory called on representatives of the Yemeni government and the Houthi group to deal with humanitarian responsibility. And ethically with the file of detainees and ending their suffering, and revealing the fate of the forcibly disappeared journalists and the speedy release of all detainees.
He also called for the speedy release of all detainees, including journalists and representatives of local and international civil society organizations, as well as former employees of foreign embassies operating in Yemen, and not letting them face... This unknown fate has become worrying for us and for the families of journalists.
The statement reviewed the suffering and harsh treatment of journalists in detention centers, depriving them of medical care, a good healthy environment, and appropriate food, and their trial in courts that do not have jurisdiction, and unfair sentences are issued against them without proof or proof other than that he is a journalist.
The statement said that 6 journalists are still detained and forcibly disappeared in the prisons of the Yemeni government, the Houthi group, and Al-Qaeda.
The Observatory expressed its fear of the continued detention of journalists and the forcible disappearance of some of them, and nothing has been known about them for more than nine years. Which puts their lives in danger.
The statement added that the impunity of criminals and their failure to hold them accountable has escalated the severity of targeting journalists without fear of punishment. It has evolved to the point of using horrific methods that Yemen has never witnessed before, through direct targeting of journalists and planting explosives in their cars. And targeting their families with the aim of terrorizing them and intimidating them from continuing their journalistic work, which requires the international community to intensify efforts to establish legal accountability and punish the perpetrators of these violations as crimes that have no statute of limitations, and their perpetrators will not escape punishment.
