The Security Council confirms that the Houthis continue to obstruct the work of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement

The UN Security Council confirmed that the Houthi terrorist militia continues to pose obstacles to the freedom of movement of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement, including the movement of patrols, stressing the need to facilitate the increase of the mission’s patrols and its work without obstacles.
Today, Monday, the Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2742 (2024) to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement until July 14, 2025.
In a statement today, the Security Council renewed its strong commitment to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and its commitment to stand by the people of Yemen.
After the resolution was adopted, the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations, Barbara Woodward, stressed that the ceasefire in Hodeidah remains of utmost importance, denouncing the restrictions imposed by the Houthi militias, which “must stop.”
She renewed her country's commitment to securing sustainable peace and long-term stability for Yemen, by supporting the United Nations-led process to achieve a comprehensive political settlement.
For its part, the United States stressed the need for the Houthi militias to stop their attacks against ships, noting that Iran continues to export weapons to the Houthis.
Iran called for an end to illicit arms transfers, and said, “These violations cannot be tolerated.”
The United States indicated that the Houthi militias continued to detain 45 employees of United Nations agencies or non-governmental organizations, and stressed that their detention directly and negatively affects the ability of these organizations to provide humanitarian aid, calling on all members of the Council to condemn these arrests and calling on the Houthis to Release these detainees immediately.
