The government is discussing with the United Nations the possibility of establishing 4 seawater desalination plants in Aden

The internationally recognized Yemeni government discussed with the United Nations the possibility of implementing a seawater desalination project in the capital, Aden.
The Minister of Water and Environment conducted; Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, on Wednesday in Aden, held a discussion with a specialized team from the United Nations Development Programme, about the final results of the feasibility study for establishing 4 seawater desalination plants in Aden and the appropriate technical and technological options for implementation.
Al-Sharjabi stressed the importance of the study, which would provide a clear vision of the possibility of implementing the project in Aden, which is threatened with facing a real problem in water availability in the coming years.
The Minister of Water stressed the need for the study to include a clear mechanism for partnership with the private sector to develop an integrated and coherent vision for its implementation in Aden and the coastal areas in general.
Al-Sharjabi revealed ongoing consultations with the Green Climate Fund to finance the project, which is receiving great interest from donors. Therefore, “an international conference will be held to discuss the project during next October in the Netherlands, with a wide presence from various relevant local and international bodies.”
