The Undersecretary of the capital, Aden, and the head of the supervisory committee for controlling fish prices in the capital, Aden, Mr. Abdul Raouf Zain Al-Saqqaf, issued an important circular requiring the implementation of a strict campaign to control fish prices, which will be launched today, Thursday, to pursue those who manipulate people’s livelihood.
This came during a joint committee meeting headed by Undersecretary Al-Saqqaf, and included the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, Engineer Ghazi Lahmar, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Dr. Atef Haidara, and Dr. Abdul Salam Ahmed, Head of the Gulf of Aden Fisheries Authority, and the Director of the Office of Industry and Trade in the capital. During the meeting, the committee discussed the mechanism for implementing the campaign that will launch its work, by going out to the field to control fish selling prices, and developing an effective mechanism to monitor fish prices and determine them in proportion to the living conditions of citizens, under the supervision of His Excellency the Minister of State and Governor of the Capital, Aden, Mr. Ahmed Hamid Lamlas.
Al-Saqqaf explained that the control committees will begin their work by the Office of Industry and Trade in the governorate, in cooperation with representatives of the Fisheries Authority and community committees in each district, with the aim of monitoring and controlling fish prices according to the bulletin approved by the Fisheries Authority in the daily landing centers designated for retail sale in the capital, Aden. .
Undersecretary Al-Saqqaf also stressed that there should be no laxity in implementing the circular, directing the general directors of the directorates of the capital, Aden, the security department, and the community committees in all neighbourhoods, regions, and districts, to strike with an iron hand all those manipulating the sale of fish and to take the necessary legal measures against them.
Al-Saqqaf stressed the necessity of providing adequate protection to the control committees while carrying out their duties, indicating that these procedures will begin as of today, Thursday, August 8, 2024, with a report on the procedures that have been accomplished being submitted two weeks after the date of the circular.
The meeting came out with an agreement to implement a circular from the Ministry of Agriculture to control the marketing of fish locally and ensure the stability of its prices, in response to the appeals of residents of the capital, Aden, due to the rise in prices in landing centers and governorate markets as a result of smuggling and export.
The meeting stressed the necessity of controlling control in landing centers, And monitor the transport of fish, and prevent the passage of fresh fish prohibited for export through land ports to achieve self-sufficiency in the markets, and the Marine Fisheries Authority in Aden will implement these measures.
