A government report revealed that about 5,600 displaced families were affected by floods between August 6 and 8 in the Hodeidah and Hajjah governorates, northwest of Yemen.
The report issued by the Executive Unit for the Displaced said that 5,583 displaced families were affected in the Hodeidah and Hajjah governorates. As a result of the torrential rains that the two governorates witnessed during the period from 6 to 8 August of this current weather depression that affected the western coasts.
He confirmed that the total number of families affected by torrential floods in Hodeidah reached two thousand and 73 families distributed among 22 camps in my district. Hais and Al-Khokha... noting the death of four in Hais and the destruction of 132 homes.
The report stated that the number of affected families in Hajjah reached 3,510 families distributed among 61 communities in the districts of Medi, Haradh, Hiran, and Abs, while the number of destroyed homes reached 25. A house in the Medi District only.
The report indicated that the floods buried large areas of agricultural land, destroyed crops, and swept away a number of mines and brought them to agricultural and populated areas. He explained that many of the areas flooded by floods have become contaminated with mines and require a comprehensive survey to be completely removed and cleared.
