Torrential rains swept away many villages, causing casualties and severe damage along the strip of the plain and the Tihami coast from the south of the city of Hodeidah, all the way to Hajjah in northwestern Yemen.
The voices of the people became louder asking for help as a result of those floods that took everything in their path within the path of the valleys and on their banks, especially the homes of the simple Tuhamians in the countryside of Hodeidah and Hajjah, which are made of straw and what is locally called “nests.”
While there are no figures yet regarding the victims, sources speak of severe damage to entire villages that were swept away by the torrents, and losses of property, including livestock (sheep, lamb, and cows), on which the people of the Yemeni countryside depend as a source of livelihood through raising livestock and cultivating the land.
In parallel with what Yemenis describe as a disaster, activists shared scenes of torrential rains and floods, when they raided homes and people, especially during the night, sweeping away many villages and properties, amid calls for any humanitarian effort to alleviate what befell the population and provide relief to those who were left without shelter or food.
Calls for rescue
Activists on social media platforms confirmed that the floods threaten everyone in Hodeidah, and the tragedy is expanding, in light of the lack of civil defense efforts and the absence of rescue by the Houthi militia amid the demolition of housing.
Continuing fears
In light of these difficult conditions as a result of the floods and their aftermath, fears are increasing about the continued rains that may exacerbate the humanitarian crisis and with it the expansion of the affected areas, especially since some of these floods have also affected the areas northwest of Taiz, in addition to... Lack or limited relief efforts to rescue and assist people in a countryside that has lost many basic services over the past years.
