A Yemeni academic resorted to selling qat, after the salaries of government employees were cut off in areas controlled by the Houthi militias.
Activists on social media circulated a picture of Dr. Khaled Al-Falahi while selling khat in a market in the capital, Sanaa.
The picture reflects the miserable state of academics at Sanaa University and government universities under the control of the militias.
Hundreds of thousands of government employees have been suffering from the interruption of their salaries for about seven years, with their suffering being completely ignored, forcing many of them to work in other professions that barely cover their needs.
