Yesterday, Monday, the authorities announced the distribution of emergency Saudi aid to thousands of people affected by floods in the Ma’rib Governorate in the center of the country.
The official Yemeni News Agency (Saba) reported that it “launched the distribution of emergency shelter and food aid, provided by the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, to those affected by the torrential rains and storms that the governorate witnessed.”
The agency explained that the aid includes “400 tents, 430 shelter bags, and food aid for 1,842 affected families, in addition to distributing the last batch of periodic food aid to 6,207 families (without mentioning the previous payments).”
He urged the rest of the humanitarian partners, including UN and international organizations, to “quickly intervene and provide the necessary humanitarian assistance possible to the affected families in the areas of shelter and food.”
On Sunday, the Yemeni authorities announced the death of 4 displaced people and the injury of 10, in addition to the damage to more than 7,000 displaced families as a result of the torrential rains that struck Marib during the past hours.
Since the beginning of this month, the amount of heavy rain has increased in several governorates in Yemen, causing torrents and floods that left 57 people dead, according to UN and government reports, in addition to major material losses.
Yemen suffers from severe infrastructure weakness, which has made the effects of the floods increase the tragedy of residents who complain about the fragility of basic services as a result of the repercussions of a civil war that began about 10 years ago.
