The American Center for Justice said that the Specialized Criminal Court of Appeal in Sanaa, which is under the control of the Houthis, increased the unjust sentence of the kidnapped woman, “Hanan Shui Al-Muntaser,” to 13 years instead of 12 years.
The center added that it had followed up from the moment “Al-Muntaser” was kidnapped on July 3, 2019, when unjust political charges were brought against her, and she was forced to confess under torture.
He pointed out that the Houthi militia detained her for two years before referring her to court, in flagrant violation of the laws of criminal procedure and the Yemeni constitution.
The center stated that the court rejected all defenses of the lawyers, considering the accusations of the security services, represented by the fight against terrorism, to be true, despite Hanan’s statement that she was forced to sign papers without knowing their contents under torture, while she was blindfolded.
The center indicated that “Hanan Al-Muntaser” was the sole breadwinner for five children, one of whom has autism, and her elderly mother. She had been displaced to Sana’a in 2018 due to military operations in Hodeidah. She was kidnapped and accused of spying with the Arab coalition countries.
At the conclusion of its statement, the American Center for Justice called on the Houthi group to release all detained female prisoners and stop illegal trials, stressing the need to respect the rights of political detainees.
