Iran's mission to the United Nations announced this evening that the Houthi group had agreed to a temporary truce to allow the rescue of the "Sounion" oil tanker, which was attacked in the Red Sea on August 23.
The tanker "Sounion" is still suffering from raging fires in several locations on its main deck, according to the latest reports issued by the European Union Naval Force in Aspides.
The naval force confirmed that the ship is still anchored in its location without drifting, amid intense efforts to contain the fire and prevent oil leakage, which could cause a major environmental disaster.
In a related context, the European Naval Force warned all ships transiting in the region of the need to exercise the utmost caution, noting that the burning ship poses a major danger to maritime navigation and a direct threat to the regional marine environment.
This temporary truce comes at a critical time, as international efforts continue to contain the crisis and prevent the worsening of environmental and marine damage resulting from the fire.
