The Yemeni Ministry of Interior announced the international accreditation of Yemeni identity and travel documents by joining the Public Key Directory (PKD) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
In a statement to the electronic portal, the Minister of Interior, Major General Ibrahim Ali Haidan, said, “I am honored to announce today an important step in our country to enhance the security of travel and identity documents in Yemen, with the support and interest of His Excellency the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, and His Excellency the Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, which is the international accreditation of Yemeni identity and travel documents by joining the Public Key Directory (PKD) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
He added that Yemen's accession to ICAO paves the way for achieving the Ministry of Interior's strategic plans to develop electronic services, including the digital identity and the future electronic passport, which will provide an additional layer of security and comfort for Yemeni citizens.
Noting that the adoption of Yemeni identity and travel documents in the international keys directory makes the documents more reliable and capable of electronic authentication in a safe and effective manner, which facilitates the movement of citizens across borders and at airports and enhances national security.
Explaining that international accreditation will contribute to strengthening international cooperation in the field of combating terrorism and organized crime, and raising the classification of the Yemeni passport force.
