The UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded his visit to the United Kingdom yesterday, where he held high-level meetings with prominent officials.
Grundberg participated in discussions with Hamish Falconer, Permanent Under-Secretary of State for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Anneliese Dodds, Development Secretary at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
The meetings focused on strengthening international efforts to support Yemen’s path towards stability and ensuring a coordinated approach to overcome current challenges and make progress towards durable solutions.
During the meetings, the UN envoy highlighted economic challenges, escalating tensions in the Red Sea, and broader regional dynamics, emphasizing the impact of these escalations on the peace process in Yemen.
Hans Grundberg, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, said: “Unified regional and international support for UN-led mediation efforts is essential to effectively meet the urgent needs of the Yemeni people, and pave the way for a peace process that makes any progress permanent and irreversible.
p>He added: “I remain committed to strengthening the Secretary-General’s call for the urgent release of all detained colleagues. I call for their immediate release, to enable them to resume their vital work and be reunited with their families who long for their safe return.”
