Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Sunday, threatened the Houthi group in Yemen to pay a “heavy price” after they claimed responsibility for a ballistic missile attack on central Israel.
Netanyahu said, at the start of his government meeting, “This morning, the Houthis launched a surface-to-surface missile from Yemen on our lands. They should have known by now that we impose a high price for any attempt to harm us,” according to Agence France-Presse.
The Israeli army said, this morning (Sunday), that a “surface-to-surface” missile was fired at central Israel from Yemen and landed in an uninhabited area without causing injuries. Moments before that, sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and across central Israel, prompting residents to quickly take cover.
On Sunday, Israeli media reported that fires broke out in several locations coinciding with the missile launched by the Yemeni Houthi group into central Israel. She pointed out that the fire broke out at the “Nisher” factory, which produces cement, located in Ramla, pointing out that “the causes of the fire are currently under investigation,” according to the German News Agency.
The channel revealed that a fire broke out in open areas near a street, apparently as a result of falling shrapnel, noting that the fire spread towards one of the settlements and the settlement’s homes were exposed to danger.
The Houthi group in Yemen later claimed responsibility for launching the missile. The military spokesman for the Houthis, Yahya Saree, said in a statement: “The operation was carried out with a new hypersonic ballistic missile, which succeeded, with God’s help, in reaching its target, and the enemy’s defenses failed to intercept and confront it.”
Sarie added that the missile traveled a distance of 2,040 kilometers in an estimated time of 11.5 minutes.
On Sunday, the Israeli army announced that about 40 missiles were launched in the morning from Lebanon towards the Upper Galilee region in Israel and the Syrian Golan Heights, which is occupied by the Hebrew state.
