The US special envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, confirmed that the Yemeni issue and its developments still represent a hot spot in the region despite achieving a number of achievements last year, including reaching a truce.
Lenderking said in an interview with the American Al-Hurra channel on Tuesday: “The discussion is continuing on the Yemeni issue within the framework of preparations for the start of the work of the 79th session of the United Nations.”
He added, "Last year we made good progress towards peace efforts, including reaching a truce in Yemen, and this was an important achievement. Then the Gaza conflict came and complicated matters."
He pointed out that "the Houthis chose the Gaza conflict as a way to show themselves, and launched attacks in the Red Sea that caused harm to many in the region, including the Yemenis."
