The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said that the recent developments in Lebanon further destabilize the Middle East and hinder the peace settlement in Yemen.
TASS quoted Grundberg on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly as saying that the comprehensive escalation that we have witnessed in the region for nearly a year now destabilizes the Middle East in general. It also affects the resolution of conflicts and the possibilities of making serious and strategic decisions for the benefit of the population in the Middle East.”
He said, "This affects our ability to reach peace. So the recent development that we are seeing in Lebanon constitutes another part of this very troubling trajectory that I believe must be reversed."
Last Monday, Israel began a military operation called “Arrows of the North” against Hezbollah in Lebanon, carrying out large-scale strikes on the party’s military sites.
In the morning, the Israeli army announced the killing of Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of Hezbollah, and a number of the party’s leaders and leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
