Next Tuesday, the UN Security Council will hold its regular session on developments in the situation in Yemen.
The UN Special Envoy, Hans Grundberg, and others are scheduled to provide their briefings on various humanitarian, political and economic aspects in the country.
On Thursday, the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, expressed his deep concern about the effects of the escalation in the Middle East on Yemen and the efforts of the peace process.
This came during the UN envoy’s conclusion of his visit to the Russian capital, Moscow, where he met with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Vershinin.
The office of the UN envoy said in a statement that Grundberg expressed his deep concern about the successive effects of the regional escalation in the Middle East on Yemen, stressing that international cooperation and diplomatic efforts are the only way to reverse the current disturbing path affecting Yemen, the Red Sea and the region.< /p>
He indicated that Grundberg provided a briefing on his communication with the parties and regional interlocutors and the work carried out by his office on the political, security and economic levels.
He pointed out that the two sides discussed ways to build on the parties’ commitments towards the comprehensive peace roadmap in Yemen in the midst of the current escalatory environment.
The UN statement stressed the importance of maintaining the Security Council’s consensus on Yemen, and continuing efforts to cooperate towards reducing the escalation for the benefit of Yemen and the region.
The meeting touched on the arbitrary detention of United Nations employees, non-governmental organizations, and civil society organizations by the Houthi group, while Grundberg appreciated the Russian Federation’s support for the efforts of the United Nations envoy aimed at the immediate and unconditional release of United Nations employees and the rest of the organizations from Houthi prisons.
